The event was organised to promote the heritage, culture, cuisine, art and craft of Bangladesh and to strengthen the ties between India and Bangladesh. Every year, December 16 is celebrated all over Bangladesh, to commemorate the victory of Bangladesh over Pakistan in the Liberation war. "Jamdani handloom is a specialised type of weaving and is woven on floor bamboo looms and the embroidery is worked with a fine bamboo,” said a spokesperson. The Bangladesh deputy high commission of Mumbai had organised the event to pay tribute to the martyrs and the victims of the war, which concluded on December 16, 1971, after the victory of Bangladesh over Pakistan.Praising India for its role in liberating Bangladesh, the Bangladesh deputy high commission of Mumbai on Wednesday celebrated Victory Day. Another highlight of the event was the exhibition of Jamdani sarees, which are made of fine Muslin cloth. The deputy high commissioner of Bangladesh Samina Naz praised Indian government and the people of India for extending their support during testing times and also praised PM Modi’s make in India scheme.
